Act 4-Riddles and Images

Prophecies #1:
In this prophecy, the witch is warning Macbeth that he should be careful about Macduff. After becoming the king of the Scotland, Macduff is the person who still loyal to the King Duncan and hostile to Macbeth’s kinship from the start. When Macbeth hears the warning from the witch, he does not really care about this warning because he knows Macduff is not in Scotland. Macbeth hires killers to kill Macduff’s wife and son. This action enrages Macduff and he finds the older son of the King Duncan Malcolm to unseat Macbeth. Macbeth has already become a tyrant, the only way Macduff and Malcolm could do is unseat Macbeth to protect their people and their country. In my image, I drew Macbeth sleeps on the bed, and Macduff holds a knife in his hand. Macbeth kills the King Duncan when he sleeps, and other people die when they sleep. Macbeth has to be careful that Macduff kills him when he sleeps.

Prophecies #2:
I think this prophecy is the most guaranteed prophecy for Macbeth to do everything he wants to do. In this prophecy, the witch tells Macbeth that he cannot hurt by any women born people. This is the prophecy lets Macbeth does not fear anyone. At the end of the play, when Macbeth duel Macduff, Macbeth does not feel afraid at all because he knows he cannot hurt by any women born people. However, Macbeth defeated by Macduff since Macduff tells him he is not a woman born person. In fact, Macduff was born from his mother’s womb through C-Section. This prophecy from the witch is cunning that it lets Macbeth think he is unbeatable and never worry about he might killed by someone. This prophecy illustrates that how the three witches use their knowledge to toy with and destroy human beings.
Prophecies #3:
This is the other misleading prophecy for Macbeth. When the three witches give this prophecy, Macbeth even thinks this is an absurd prophecy because the tree cannot move by itself. However, it moved by the enemy of people who want to unseat Macbeth. Their leaders are Macduff and Malcolm. They cannot bear Macbeth hires killers to murder their family and plan this action. They ask each solider hold a tree to camouflage to move, so that Macbeth will not discover their track. When Macbeth sees the tree approaches to his castle, he becomes afraid of his situation. “To doubt the equivocation of the feind that lies like truth; fear not, till Birnam wood come to Dunsinane. Arm, arm, and out! If this which he avouches does appear, there is nor flying hence, nor tarrying here. I’ gin to be aweary of the sun. ”(act.5.5-43)

Act 2-Live Tweeting!

I know twitter long time age but I never try to create an account and post some messages on that. This is a good chance for me to try to use twitter and experience the difference between Facebook and Twitter. I feel that twitter is like a Facebook but they have a little different. My Facebook account is all my friends and I can see their last news. Compared with Facebook, my friends are useless of twitter, so I think it is not necessary to have an account on Twitter.

My impression changed by experiencing this activity. First of all, I found that I can post anything I want to twitter about a specific thing but does not matter what other people think because they don’t know me. Second, I can feel free to discuss my thoughts with other people in twitter. Twitter provides a stage to people who have the common topic with other people. Third, I realized that twitter is a good stage to get the last news for what my mind. For instance, if some one posts a tweet to talk about the last news about Justin Bieber, then this news can spread widely and soon can let more people know this news.

In conclusion, I gratified that I have a chance to try to use twitter to discuss Macbeth with other people. In fact, I love Macbeth after just reading two acts by the reason I don’t know. I think I will keep using this account to discuss Macbeth and other interesting things with other people who have common topics with me.

Act 1-Character Profile

Macbeth
Macbeth is the protagonist of this play and all play is talk about what happen to Macbeth. This play begins with Macbeth lead his solider fight back the enemy from Norway successfully with his friend Banquo, it illustrates that Macbeth is a brave soldier and he has his own good friend. As the person who just makes contributions, he does not think too much because he knows that is what he should do for his country, for his family, and for his king. Macbeth is still loyal for King Duncan. However, everything changes after Macbeth accounts with the three witches. The three witches give prophecies to Macbeth that he will become the Thane of Cawdor, soon this prophecy becomes true. This lets Macbeth realize he has the potential for becoming the king instead of King Duncan. The prophecies of three witches plant the seed in Macbeth’ heart for being the criminal.

Macbeth is one of the people who make me feel he is poor but also hateful. So many people respected him since he defeats the enemy of Norway. However, he chooses the hardest way to go because of the prophecies from the three witches and the force from his wife. A part of the reason he chooses to kill the King Duncan is himself, because he knows he could be the king some day. If he does not meet those three witches, he is the thane of Cawdor forever, and might be greater. After Macbeth killing King Duncan, he feels guilty and never comfortable in his role as a criminal. He bears the disastrous consequence of what he did---he kills King Duncan day by day and cannot sleep at night. At the same time, Macbeth is also hateful. After him becoming the king, he becomes a tyrant to implement his atrocity to his people. He is not a good king compared with King Duncan.

From Macbeth, I know I should deliberate before I make a decision and try my best to avoid choosing a bad way to go. A bad direction can not only make trouble but also can destroy a person’s life forever.

Act 1-Destiny or influence?

I think the three witches influence the all play. They appear at the beginning of the play and give prophecy. They say Macbeth will become first Thane of Cawdor and then king. Though this prophecy looks strange and even Macbeth himself does not believe this prophecy. However, the following developments in act 1 illustrates that the prophecy comes true. At this time, the prophecies have become the main clue of this play. Their prophecies lead the characters’ choose, and change their original mind. They toy with characters by using their knowledge.

In my opinion, most of things happened in our life are not predictable. We experience our life, so we experience those things; especially some of them are terrible things. However, we cannot choose to avoid those terrible things but have to go forward to experience them even though we are not prepared and not subject to pre-determined destiny. We are passive to receive what destiny gives us and have no idea about what’s going to be happening next. There is a frost around everyone on a stage and destiny is a person who looks at the stage, then decide what is going to be happening next to change characters’ course of life. In Macbeth, the three witches give prophecies to characters and just look at them to decide what they are going to do; however, they are not destiny because the characters in Macbeth are still having the right to choose which they can go and which kind of person they could be.
On the stage, there are some things we can change by choosing which way we want to go, such as studying hard to get good marks in our tests. In Macbeth, the three witches just give prophecies and stay aside to look at the following developed. Characters have rights to choose which way they want to go. For instance, Macbeth is a brave soldier at the beginning of the play; however, he chooses to be a tyrant because he influenced by those three witches’ prophecies. If he chooses to be the Thane of the Cawdor and assist King Duncan, he will not stay in his criminal actions and never out of his guilty feeling. Moreover, he will not become to desire more power than he has now.

Act 1-What I know about Macbeth so far?

Back to China, when I was in primary school, I had already heard the name of Shakespeare. He has a great reputation of his works, such as Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s dream, Hamlet, etc., around the world. Some of his works used as the textbook for students at school. And, that’s it. I do not have too much information to Shakespeare because I do not have a chance to learn any works from him. After several years, I came to Canada and began to learn Shakespeare’s works, such as Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth.

Before I read Macbeth, I have already known that Macbeth is the most powerful tragedies based on my common sense. I really want to know the content of Macbeth because I wonder how this play called the most powerful tragedies. According to the experience of reading Romeo and Juliet, I know there must be a profound theme of this play through the conflicts among the characters. I cannot wait to know what cause characters to scramble for.

However, I know it is somewhat difficult for me to read the archaic words in Macbeth. Most of Shakespeare’s words are not modern words and they are very brief. Maybe one line in his play could expand to a paragraph. I need to focus on trying to understand what the real meaning of the line is. This realize makes me feel excited that it is a brand new challenge for me. Though I do not know much about Macbeth, I think I could do my best to find the theme and the conflict among characters to help me understand Macbeth.
